Basic Resources works with clients to connect them to services including short-term and emergency assistance with basic needs, focusing on food, shelter, medical needs and clothing. This program helps Jewish individuals and families living at or below the poverty line to live with dignity and self-respect. We advocate for our clients and help them to navigate government systems as well as empower them to self-advocate. We assist with referrals, both internal and external, to programs and services that will assist the client in moving beyond a crisis situation, such as referrals to JFSA employment counselling, addictions counselling, financial literacy courses and the like. We also promote the knowledge and understanding of how food is grown and how to contribute to a local, sustainable food system through JFSA’s The World In A Garden.

Finally, we are a resource and referral hub for families with children living with a disability as well as Jewish community institutions wanting assistance in becoming more inclusive.
