The World in the GardenThe World In A Garden is a multicultural urban agriculture project that educates youth and community on the nutritional, cultural and social benefits of a just and local food system. Our produce is sold to local restaurants and markets, donated to the food bank and used for harvest celebrations.

The World In A Garden’s mission is to educate the community and youth on the importance of a local food system. Our mandate is to increase access to highly nutritious, fresh and organic food in a way that maintains dignity, builds community and celebrates diversity.

Open to both Jewish and non-Jewish community members, we promote cross-cultural understanding, leadership building and social and environmental responsibility through volunteer opportunities, internships, program participation, events and workshops.

Our garden invites and attracts a wide range of people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, including: community gardeners, JFSA clients, staff, local schools, corporate volunteers, interns, community volunteers, synagogues and neighborhood families.

Tricia Sedgwick is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist with a background in Environmental Studies. In 2007 she spearheaded “The World in a Garden” urban agriculture project  with the tremendous support of JFSA. The garden is designed to enable youth and community to experience the cultural, nutritional and environmental benefits of local, organic food systems from seed to table. Tricia’s global vision is to build gardens and connect cultures around the world through food, our one uniting thread. In her current role at JFSA she works to build community partnerships, source funding and plan fundraisers. Additionally she is working on developing the garden into a social enterprise and working with interns to develop and improve garden programs. Tricia is committed to improving food systems both locally and globally and is honored to be working with JFSA on such pertinent issues.
